February 20 is the Day of Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred.
This day was established by the Decree of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko dated February 11, 2015 “On honoring the feat of the participants of the Revolution of Dignity and perpetuating the memory of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred.”
It was on February 20, 2014 that security forces openly used weapons against peaceful participants of the Maidan. In total, from November 30, 2013 to April 14, 2014, 106 people died during protest actions in Kyiv and in the regions of Ukraine. They gave their lives defending the ideals of democracy, defending rights and freedoms and the European choice of Ukraine, for the right to live in their own free and independent state. For this great self-sacrifice, they were called the Heavenly Hundred, which, figuratively speaking, protects our country from disaster, helps and protects it from heaven.
It has already been 10 years since those tragic events. And every year, the commemoration of heroes takes place under a certain slogan. Now it sounds like this: “We remain worthy of our heroes!”.
Since the beginning of the brutal war against Russian aggression, Ukrainians have remained worthy of the memory of the heroes of the Heavenly Hundred, defending their will and independence, showing examples of unprecedented courage and iron defiance. We believe in our Victory over the forces of Evil, we are proud of our compatriots – real knights of Light!
Glory to the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred!
