Valerii Zaporozhan: Our goal is to make Odessa Medical University the Ukrainian Mecca of Science and Medicine

Odessa National University should more actively promote its status as one of the best higher education institutions of Ukraine and abroad. This was stated during the meeting of the Academic Council by the Chairman of the Council, Academician Valerii Zaporozhan.

“Our goal is to make our university the scientific and medical Mecca in Ukraine. We must prove that we are the best. We have advanced university clinics, talented scientists recognized all over the world, powerful departments and scientific schools. I urge everyone to intensify international cooperation, to join as many global and European programs as possible,”said Valerii Zaporozhan.

He highlighted that the strength of Odessa Medical University is in its team, which combines the wisdom of experienced scientists with the energy and ambition of their young colleagues. It preserves centuries-old traditions and at the same time creates a modern and powerful scientific base for the training of future doctors.

Odessa Medical University was the first in Ukraine to go to English. As a result, professors and students have become an integral part of the global scientific and medical community. The university is the first in the country to set up simulation classes where students practice at work that completely mimics the body of a real patient. A unique electronic integrated library has also been created here: students have unlimited access to Harvard, Oxford, and other world-class educational materials. Today students from 53 countries of the world study at  Odessa Medical University.

“We have come a long way and have gained a lot because we never focused on any of the formal indicators that usually measure the success of a university. Our driving force is the interests of the university, comfortable conditions of cooperation and efficiency,”said Valerii Zaporozhan.
