Basic Emergency Care (BEC) training package

Odesa National Medical University in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the World Health Organization, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Federation of Emergency Medicine (International Federation of Emergency Medicine) developed the Basic Emergency Care (BEC) educational package. This basic course is intended for medical professionals who provide emergency medical care at the hospital and pre-hospital stages.

The BEC course prepares medical personnel to assess, treat and manage a critically ill patients using minimal resources, especially in emergency situations. In order to implement the BEC course in Ukraine and reduce dependence on external/international stakeholders, it is necessary to create a group of Ukrainian BEC trainers. WHO is organizing 10 courses over a 6-week period in the first quarter of 2024 for employees of higher education institutions (HEIs). The goal is for 18 Ukrainian candidates with instructor potential to complete all the necessary steps required to obtain BEC trainer accreditation.

As part of the implementation of the above-mentioned course, WHO provides:

necessary translated materials, manuals and presentations in printed or electronic version;
financing of logistics, consumables, equipment for organizing trainings;
logistics for trainers and participants, including accommodation, transport, food during all days of the courses;
support of selected candidates in the process of accreditation by BEC Master trainers. Each higher education institution can offer up to 3 candidates for selection.
At Odesa National Medical University, the BEC course is held from March 25 to 29 and from April 15 to 19.

To conduct the course, the following is provided:

A simulation center with the minimum necessary mannequins according to the list below:
BLS (CPR) dummy;
– Trainer for intubation for adults and children;

– Birth simulator/womb simulator;

– Simulator for injections (i.v.);

– Dummies for wounds;

– Chest simulator (decompression, drainage).

Participants will receive free certificates with 25 BPR points.
