August 18 — World Breast Cancer Research Day

On August 18, the world celebrates World Breast Cancer Research Day — one of the key dates in the global fight against this cancer.

The purpose of this day is to draw attention to the importance of early diagnosis, support for scientific research and increase women’s awareness of their own health.

Breast cancer is the most common type of oncology among women in the world. Unfortunately, breast cancer is the main cause of death from malignant neoplasms in Ukrainian women, taking more than 3 thousand lives every year. At the present stage, the only relevant and reliable method of combating cancer is prevention and timely examination for breast cancer. Prevention has always been the most effective method of preventing serious diseases.

ONMedU emphasizes: regular examination, self-examination and self-care are the key to health. We support scientific initiatives aimed at overcoming this disease and train specialists who save lives every day.

At the Multidisciplinary Medical Center of Odesa National Medical University, the gynecological department receives dozens of patients with various gynecological diseases and complaints about the condition of the mammary glands every day. Here, women receive highly qualified medical care and undergo a full range of necessary examinations, including ultrasound examination of the mammary glands to assess their condition. If necessary, modern methods of morphological verification are performed, including trepan biopsy, which allows for an accurate diagnosis. If breast pathology is detected, patients also have the opportunity to receive a consultation from an experienced oncologist to determine further treatment tactics.

Every year, millions of women are diagnosed with breast cancer, but thanks to modern treatment methods and, most importantly, timely detection, the chances of a full recovery are significantly increasing.
