Valerii Zaporozhan in the Parliament of Georgia: We are interested in cooperation and exchange of experience at the interstate and university levels

Ukraine and Georgia have a high potential for cooperation in the field of human capital development, health care system and medical training. This was stated by the Rector of Odessa National Medical University, Academician Valerii Zaporozhan during a speech at the Committee on Science and Education of the Georgian Parliament during the official visit of the Ukrainian government delegation to Georgia.

He called valuable Georgia’s experience in increasing the capitalization of health care, participation in the global initiative “Human Capital Development Project”, reorientation to disease prevention and management in the early stages, strengthening the role of universities as experimental bases for international projects. “Georgia has gained good experience in professional liability insurance for health workers, sustainable health care through forecasting and monitoring of human resources, strategic planning, development of digital medicine. We are very interested in cooperation and exchange of experience at both interstate and university levels, “said Valerii Zaporozhan.

He also emphasized the importance of strengthening the partnership in the context of European challenges – building an effective anti-epidemic system, introduction of science-intensive medical and preventive technologies, implementation of the European program “Empowerment of citizens through digital health care”, designed for 2025.

According to Valery Zaporozhan, one of the areas of Ukrainian-Georgian cooperation may be the creation of a “strategic alliance”, the central link of which should be the universities of both countries. “The focus of such a partnership may be research and development projects, joint biomedical research with further promotion and commercialization, the creation of centers of personalized medicine and biobanks for clinical research, training of highly qualified medical and scientific personnel,” said Valerii Zaporozhan.

The visit of the delegation to Georgia was headed by the Minister of Science and Education of Ukraine Serhiy Shkarlet. The program of the visit includes a meeting at the Embassy of Ukraine in Georgia, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, a visit to the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia and Tbilisi State University named after Ivan Javakhishvili. In addition, Valerii Zaporozhan and Chancellor of Tbilisi Medical University Zurab Ordzhonikidze signed an agreement on cooperation between the universities.
