The second thematic advanced training (intensive simulation and practical course) “FUNDAMENTALS OF LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY” was held on a paid basis on March 26-31, 2018.
The course was composed according to international principles: it included lectures and practical classes on the simulators and in the operating room, with a small group of 5 people in intensive mode, and involved acquaintance with the possibilities of the new high-tech equipment of the department, and, most importantly, included assistance in the operating room (trainees directed the optics, inserted trocars and manipulated instruments). In the new operative room of the department of robotic and endoscopic surgery, the trainees attended 3 laparoscopic cholecystectomies for acute and chronic calculous cholecystitis, a laparoscopic plastic surgery of the umbilical hernia by the method of IPOM and a laparoscopic plasty of hernia of the esophageal aperture of the diaphragm with Nissen fundoplication (operated by the head of the department, doctor of medical sciences A.V.Malinovsky). In another operating room of robotic and endoscopic surgery, the trainees attended 3 technically complicated laparoscopic cholecystectomies (operated by Professor of the Department of Robotic and Endoscopic Surgery V.E.Vansovich). In the operating room of the department of general and military surgery, the trainees attended 2 laparoscopic cholecystectomies (operated by Professor M. A. Kashtlian). So, in general, the trainees were present at 10 laparoscopic operations.
The simulation part was performed on the Simbionics virtual simulator LapMentor III and Simulab LapTrainer simulators (with the new ergonomic tools Wolf), the world’s leading manufacturers of such equipment. Thus, the trainees received a full range of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. On completing the course, the trainees were given a standard certificate. The program of the course is available here.
