ONMedU Scientific Library has started a large series of book exhibitions-reviews of rare medical publications of the 18th-early 20th centuries. These pearls of the Scientific Library fund reveal to readers the fascinating history of the development of medicine!
The first review, dedicated to rare books on therapy, was held on March 26 in the reading room of the Scientific Library.
1st year students of the Faculty of Medicine were invited to the event, they listened with interest to the story about unique monographic and scientific publications in cardiology, gastroenterology, pulmonology.
Head of the library department Iryna Grabarchuk answered questions regarding the storage of rare publications in the library’s funds, access to publications, the number of books that survived the bloody revolution and three wars. The book “Clinical Lectures” by Professor O. Ostroumov from the personal collection of the outstanding ophthalmologist, surgeon, academician of the Ukrainian SSR Academy of Sciences and the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, head of the Department of Eye Diseases of the Odesa Medical Institute, Volodymyr Petrovich Filatov.
At the end of the meeting, the plan for the next exhibition-reviews was announced. At the request of the students, the nearest exhibition will be presented with books on surgical specialties, in particular, obstetrics and gynecology, and rare editions of anatomical atlases.
