ONMedU Library: Book Exhibition for Ukrainian Nationhood Day

This holiday has a very short history, but now it has acquired special significance. The full-scale war with Russia forced us to understand the existence of Ukrainian statehood as the existence of our own life, as hope for a happy future for children, hope for freedom and peace among the free and peaceful nations of Europe.

This holiday was introduced to affirm the continuity of the more than thousand-year history of Ukrainian nationhood, as evidenced by the first mentions of the founding of the city of Kyiv, of historical events associated with the activities of the outstanding state-builder Prince Volodymyr of Kyiv.

Ukrainian Nationhood Day is inextricably linked with the development of the army and the thousand-year-old military traditions, national traditions of the symbolic representation of the world, which was supposed to combine folk, religious and state aspects. The defenders of our statehood are the descendants of the Rusich warriors, Cossacks, Sich riflemen, and UPA warriors. The modern Armed Forces of Ukraine, restraining the aggressor – the Russian Federation, defending the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, prove that Ukrainians are a people-army.

The holiday is designed to affirm that Ukraine has its own remarkable history of nationhood, and calls to remember each stage of its formation and the people who made efforts for this.

It is very important to remember and share the historical achievements of Ukraine, especially in the conditions of the current war and information manipulations that distort the truth and hide the facts. Ukrainian history and culture are unique and extremely valuable national treasures.
