On July 15, our country celebrates Ukrainian Nationhood Day, which coincides with the Day of the Baptism of Rus-Ukraine and the Day of honoring the outstanding state-builder, Prince Volodymyr the Great of Kyiv.
The adoption of Christianity in 988 by Prince Volodymyr was an outstanding historical step for Ukraine, which contributed to the rise of culture, education, and gave impetus to the development of writing and Christian values.
From the very beginning, this holiday was celebrated on July 28, on the day of the angel Volodymyr the Great, which coincided with the holiday of the Baptism of Rus, but due to changes in the church calendar, it was moved 13 days back — to July 15.
This holiday holds a special place in the heart of every Ukrainian. After all, it reminds the whole world that Ukraine is a state with its own identity, ancient history, cultural heritage and religious beliefs, its traditions, habits and memory of past generations.
Right now, during the war, it reminds the entire world community of the independence and sovereignty of our country, of the strength, courage and heroism of the defenders on the battlefield and is an effective way to fight in the information war with the enemy, who spreads the lie that Ukrainians and Russians are one people, and Ukraine is an artificial and unviable state. Therefore, the current war is not only a fight for our future, but also for the memory of the heroic past, for the centuries-old history of Ukraine.
Today, national flags will fly in cities and villages, flowers will be laid at the foot of monuments to prominent figures, exhibitions about the statehood and sovereignty of Ukraine will open, meetings and lectures will be held dedicated to the meaning of this national holiday, which states:
Ukraine existed, exists and will exist!
Glory to Ukraine!
