Interactive patriotic and educational event “Masnytsia-Kolodiy: history and traditions”

On February 25, 2025, an interactive patriotic and educational event “Masnytsia-Kolodiy: history and traditions” was held. The participants were the members of the Student Scientific Community of the Department of Social Sciences “Via scientorum” (scientific supervisor, Ph.D., Assoc. Prof. Tetiana Podkupko), parents and children of the NGO “Special Children”, first-year students of groups E111, E121. The event was held in a mixed format: in person at the Department of Social Sciences (head, Ph.D. in Philology, Assoc. Prof. Olha Sikorska) and online on the ZOOM platform.

Those present got acquainted with the traditions of the Ukrainian people, folk rites and customs associated with the celebration of the farewell of Winter and the meeting of Spring, learned the history of the holiday, its features by regions and even countries! They prepared delicacies and messages about varenyky, pies, pancakes, nalysnyky, syrnyky and so on. They also took part in competitions, guessed riddles, and took a humorous quiz about the history and present of Kolodya.

The traditional rites of Maslenitsa-Kolodia play an important role in preserving national self-identification and culture, and have a deep social and educational meaning. These traditions reflect the ancient ideas of Ukrainians about the harmony of the world, the unity of the community, and the importance of family and family values. Our national traditional holidays are not only wise, deeply philosophical, but also delicious! We wish you a fun Maslenitsa-Kolodia!
