On the eve of the World Tuberculosis Day, which takes place annually on March 24, a scientific and practical conference with international participation “Tuberculosis and its consequences. Prospects of overcoming” was held at the University Clinic on Tinista Street.
The organizers were Odesa National Medical University, Odesa Regional Scientific and Practical Society of Phthisiologists and Pulmonologists, KNP “Odesa Oblast Center of Socially Significant Diseases” of Odesa Oblast Council.
Doctors of various specialties took part in the conference, because the problems posed by tuberculosis relate not only to phthisiology, but also to almost all branches of medical science and practice — from epidemiology, modern diagnostics, therapeutic and surgical treatment to prevention.
Conference participants were greeted by the rector of ONMedU, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Valerii Zaporozhan. “The work of the forum begins, the topic of which is very important for the health of people around the world. Global epidemic of tuberculosis. I hope that your meeting will help reduce the number of tuberculosis patients and will benefit the improvement of the lives of Ukrainians,” he said.
During the conference, scientists and doctors not only from Ukraine shared their experience, scientists from the USA (California) and Sweden, who for many years have been studying the problems of tuberculosis and AIDS at the molecular and genetic level, as well as the immunological basis of pathological processes, gave presentations.
The reports of all speakers were informative and interesting for those present. Knowledge of modern international approaches and practices in the treatment of tuberculosis patients, updated national standards for the provision of medical care for tuberculosis in accordance with the latest WHO recommendations will allow to resist the spread of the disease.
