On March 3, 2023, the Minister of Health of Ukraine, Viktor Lyashko, signed an order approving the Standards of Medical Care “Obesity in Adults”.

The document has already been published on the official website of the Ministry of Education and Culture. And the”State Expert Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine” should shortly enter the Medical Care Standards “Obesity in Adults” into the Register of Medical Technological Documents on Standardization of Medical Care.

This document is the result of many years of work by the staff of the Department of Family Medicine and Polyclinic Therapy of Odesa National Medical University, headed by the head of the department, Professor Valentyna Velychko. In addition to our scientists, a number of leading scientists and doctors of the country participated in the development of the document.

Although obesity has been officially recognized as an epidemic by the WHO, unfortunately, weight biases still exist even in healthcare settings, which can reduce the quality of medical care for obese patients. And obesity is a disease that gives impetus to the development of a large number of different pathologies. Public awareness of the disease and clear standards of diagnosis, prevention and treatment will significantly improve the health of the nation.
