The 23rd Ukraine-EU Summit took place in Kyiv

A number of documents were signed during the 23rd Ukraine-European Union Summit in Kyiv on October 12, in the presence of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, President of the European Council Charles Michel and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

In particular, the Agreement between Ukraine, the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community on Ukraine’s participation in the Horizon Europe Framework Program for Research and Innovation and the European Atomic Energy Community Research and Training Program (2021-2025), complementary to the Research Framework Program and innovation Horizon Europe. The document was signed by the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhiy Shkarlet and the Vice-President of the European Commission, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.

The signing of the document will provide a legal basis for cooperation in science and science and technology and create the conditions necessary to accelerate Ukraine’s development as an influential European state by expanding international scientific and technological cooperation, provide the necessary steps for our country’s integration into the European Research Area. The associated status of Ukraine in these programs will contribute to the involvement of domestic subjects of scientific, scientific, technical and economic activities in the largest program of the European Union for research and innovation, as well as attracting support under this program.

Horizon Europe 2021-2027 is the EU’s largest science and innovation funding program with a total budget of over € 95.5 billion. The European Atomic Energy Community’s research and training program (2021-2025) is complementary to Horizon Europe and aims to carry out promising research and innovative projects in the fields of nuclear energy, thermonuclear reaction and nuclear fission.

Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhiy Shkarlet noted that this step will mark the beginning of a new seven-year period of collaboration, communication and support of our representatives of the scientific, scientific and technical, innovation community and entrepreneurs with European partners. Cooperation will help overcome the new global challenges facing humanity in the coming decade.
