On March 30, ONMedU held a meeting of the Academic Council

On March 30, a regular meeting of the Scientific Council of ONMedU was held at Odesa National Medical University under the chairmanship of Academician Valerii Zaporozhan.
Many issues were put on the agenda. At the beginning of the meeting, the state of educational and national-patriotic work at the university was discussed. In the period of war, from which, unfortunately, Ukraine is suffering, in the field of humanitarian educational activity, it is important to implement topical systemic measures aimed at strengthening educational and patriotic work based on national and European values, which aims to form a conscious citizen of Ukraine. As vice-rector Kostyantyn Talalaev noted, all university teachers, curators of academic groups, and university faculties participate in the patriotic education of higher education seekers. Various events take place at ONMedU – round tables, conferences dedicated to festive and memorable dates in the history and modern life of our country; students take an active part in All-Ukrainian patriotic competitions. Given the importance, a separate item in the section of humanitarian education and national-patriotic education at ONMedU is to ensure the functioning of the state language, in particular, providing higher education seekers with Ukrainian-language textbooks and manuals prepared by ONMedU employees.

The Academic Council listened to a thorough report by the head of the Department of Pediatrics No. 1, member-cor. NAMNU, Professor Mykola Leonidovich Ariaiev “On the contribution of pediatric departments to the further development of scientific schools in recent years and prospects for the future.” In his presentation, the speaker presented a historical outline of the development of pediatrics in Odesa, cited examples of international and national scientific projects in which employees of pediatric departments took part and are taking part, and also outlined the prospects for the further functioning and development of pediatric education and science at the Odesa National Medical University.

The Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work, Professor Svitlana Heorhiivna Kotyuzhynska, in her report “On the strategy of scientific activity of the Odesa National Medical University”, focused the audience’s attention on the main indicators of evaluating the scientific activity of the scientific and teaching staff of the university. In particular, it was about the calculation of such important indicators of the activity of employees and the university as a whole, as the publication of scientific works in periodical scientific publications of category “A”, “B”; participation in international and national grant programs; foreign internship; involvement of young specialists in the scientific and educational activities of the university. At the end of the report, vice-rector S.H. Kotyuzhinska stated the immediate goals, the achievement of which should improve the indicators of scientific activity of ONMedU.

At the suggestion of the chairman of the Academic Council, academician Zaporozhan V.M. the project of creating a rehabilitation center at ONMedU was considered and supported. Professor Olha Yushkovska, head of the department of physical rehabilitation, sports medicine, physical education and valeology, reported more about the organization of rehabilitation care in university clinics of ONMedU and the creation of a rehabilitation center at ONMedU. Those present at the meeting of the Academic Council unanimously supported the proposal, as well as practical steps for the creation and operation of the rehabilitation center, which should play a significant role in the recovery of defenders of Ukraine and civilians suffering from hostilities or various diseases.

The academic council approved several important provisions regulating the educational and scientific process, medical activities of units of ONMedU. The Academic Council also recommended  a textbook for printing, four training manuals and methodical recommendations, developed with the participation of university employees.
