“Light of Memory”: Oleksiy Andronov

ONMedU solemnly honors the memory of graduates who gave their lives, liberating their native country from the sworn enemy. Among those whose names will forever be engraved in the history of the university is Oleksiy Andronov, a graduate of the Faculty of Pharmacy.

The young man dreamed of a medical profession – and after the 9th grade he entered the Odessa Medical School with a degree in Pharmacy. He continued his studies at the Faculty of Pharmacy of our university. Oleksiy received his internship diploma in January 2022. But he did not have time to start his professional career, to realize his dreams and plans. All this was crossed out by the war.

Since the invasion of the Russian army, Oleksiy could not stay away from the great misfortune that came to each of us, and decided, as a courageous person with a sense of civic duty, to go to defend the Motherland. In the spring of 2022, he joined the Chimera assault brigade. This heroic combat unit, part of the 126th Odessa Territorial Defense Brigade, participated in battles with the Russian army in the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions. When the threat of occupation loomed over Ukraine in March 2022, a decision was made to create an additional unit to defend Southern Ukraine. And immediately, lines of volunteers appeared at the reception points in Odesa — both those who had some military experience and those who had never held a weapon in their hands, but were firmly determined to defend their native land. Among them was 25-year-old Oleksiy Andronov, who voluntarily went to the front. In a short period of time, his brigade became a real combat unit and a close-knit team, whose members were distinguished by their strength of spirit, patriotism and desire to fight to the end… The fighters participated in the liberation of the territories of the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions, and on December 12, 2022, the brigade in full force set off for the East of Ukraine.

On December 16, 2022, while performing a combat mission in the Kherson direction, during the defense of the city, in the village of Olhiivka, the fighters of the Chimera unit – Oleksiy Andronov and Kostyantyn Rudoy – died.
