A meeting of the Academic Council was held

On September 15, 2020, a meeting of the Academic Council of Odessa National Medical University took place. It was held in a mixed format in compliance with all the requirements of the quarantine regime.

The meeting began with congratulations to the jubilees – veterans of ONMedU: employee of the Scientific Secretary Service Skrypak Zinaida Mykolayivna, professor of normal and pathological clinical anatomy Sytnikova Varvara Oleksandrivna and senior laboratory assistant of this department Pletneva Angela Ivanivna. Ten employees of the university received Patents of Ukraine.

Acting Rector, Professor R.S. Vastyanov congratulated the university staff on the beginning of the new academic year, reported on the past year, made a brief outline of prospects and objectives for the new academic year. In particular, he stressed: “We have entered  the new academic year 2020/2021, which marks the 120th anniversary of life and active medical, educational, scientific and social work of our glorious university! Versatility, multifunctionality, the highest professionalism, full dedication and humanity have always been inherent in the staff and students of ONMedU, its calling card. Today we are taking the first step in the 13th decade of our lives, which, first of all, requires a thorough analysis of all that has been achieved and on its basis to outline our main steps into the future. I am glad that we were able to recover in  2019/2020 academic year after the loss caused by the irresponsible decisions and actions of the previous leadership of the Ministry of Health, were able to graduate 6th year students with legitimate diplomas, successfully implemented the 2020 admission campaign, which allowed to recruit smart entrants on a budget form of education. We have received a budget for this year. We have restored the image of the university in the eyes of today’s leadership and the ministry. We consider our achievement to include the staff of clinical departments in the E-Health program, which allows to provide medical care to the population of the city and region. And most importantly – we have preserved the integrity of our entire team, the conditions of its normal working regime. The management of the university has no doubt that united by a common idea and a common goal, our team will confidently spend the academic year that has begun. ”

Executive Secretary of the Admissions Committee, Associate Professor E.S. Buryachkivskii reported on the results of the work of the Admissions Committee of the University for the admission of students. In his opinion, despite the short deadlines and inflated passing scores, this year’s admission campaign was held at a high level, we were joined by many talented students. The results of the introductory campaign for foreigners will be announced in November.

One of the most important issues raised at the meeting of the Academic Council was the approval of the Regulations on the organization of the election of the rector of ONMedU. The chairman of the organizing committee for the election of the rector, Professor F.I. Kostev, reported on the results of the first meeting of the organizing committee and acquainted the members of the Academic Council with a number of provisions developed by the organizing committee, including:

– On the procedure for holding elections

– About the election campaign

– About the organizing committee

– On the election of representatives to participate in the election campaign

– On the election of representatives from among the students to participate in the election campaign.

They were unanimously supported by members of the Academic Council. Regulations on the election of representatives from among students will be submitted to the meeting of the Academic Council after its consideration at the conference of student government.

Acting vice-rector for scientific and pedagogical work prof. OA Shandra proposed to appoint opponents and reviewers of dissertations, to form a one-time specialized council, to appoint the chairman of the specialized council. All proposals were approved by the Academic Council.

The vice-rector for scientific and pedagogical work, Professor V.G. Marichereda reported on the results of the inspection of the methodological support of the departments of ONMedU in accordance with the order of the Acting Rector R.S. Vastyanov. Some shortcomings were identified, which are proposed to be analyzed within two weeks and eliminated. The university administration also initiated the recording of educational video lectures for more effective work in a remote mode.

The Academic Council supported 7 candidates nominated by the teams of departments for the academic title of associate professor.

The meeting was concluded by the Chairman of the Academic Council, Academician of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Professor V.M. Zaporozhan with congratulations on the beginning of the academic year and best wishes to all the staff and students.
