On July 4, Yulia Senkivska, a 4th-year student of the Faculty of Medicine, gave an online presentation of her 6-week medical placement at Queen Mary University of London, Great Britain.
She vividly and meaningfully told almost 50 higher education seekers of ONMedU about her impressions of the trip, the experience gained and new opportunities that appeared to her after the medical placement.
According to Yulia, the opportunity to study abroad and gain new experience helps to become a doctor of the highest level. “I learned a lot of new things. I was present during an obstetric examination in the women’s consultation, functional-instrumental examination (ultrasound examination of the uterus and fetus (screening). I got acquainted with the only helicopter service in London, whose team of doctors and paramedics provides pre-hospital care to victims with severe injuries at the scene. I practiced cardiology and cardiac surgery at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, which is considered to be the oldest (900 years) and the best heart center in Europe. I had the wonderful experience of practicing and seeing coronary angioplasty. I was present at several operations – coronary artery bypass grafting and myomectomy. I am extremely glad that I study at Odesa National Medical University, where the academic mobility of students and teachers is at a very high level. And thanks to this, I had the opportunity to have the medical placement at the famous Queen Mary University of London. After the internship, me and two other students who trained with me – Serhiy Tarasenko (5th year) and Hriuesh Mohamed (4th year) were issued certificates with a list of subjects that were fully enrolled by our university,” Yuliya Senkivska said.
By the way, the deputy director of health care at Queen Mary University of London, Mark Coldfield, in his welcome speech to ONMedU graduates of 2023, noted that the English side was pleased to receive the first three students of ONMedU, who worked with serious injuries in cardiology and obsterics for six weeks . And all his colleagues were impressed by the desire of these students for practical actions.
