100 Outstanding Graduates (Wenger Vilen Feodosiiovych)

Today we will tell you about Wenger Vilen Feodosiiovych – Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics of Odessa National Medical University.
Professor Wenger was born on May 9, 1937, in the village of Bobrinka, Vityazevsky District of the Kirovograd region of the Ukrainian SSR.
In 1955 he entered the Medical Faculty of Odessa Medical Institute named after M. I. Pirogov.
After graduating from the institute, he was sent to work in the Black Sea-Azov water health department as a doctor on foreign-going vessels. Three years later he became a traumatologist at Odesa City Clinical Hospital number 1, and in 1965, he entered the postgraduate course at the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics of Odessa Medical Institute.
In 1969 he defended his Ph.D. thesis on the topic “Diagnosis of Damage to the Internal Meniscus of the Knee Joint”.
And already in 1977 he became an associate professor of the department. For several years he was the chief traumatologist of the Odessa City Department of Health.
In 1987, Professor V.F. Wenger defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Diagnosis, prognosis of the course and treatment of spondylostenosal spondylolisthesis”.
In 1988 he was appointed, and then by the competition he was elected head of the Department of Traumatology, Orthopedics and Ophthalmology of Odessa Medical Institute.
In 1990 he received the title of Professor of Traumatology and Orthopedics.
His main scientific direction was surgical and conservative treatment of injuries and diseases of the spine and knee joints.
Unfortunately, at the age of 82 Vilen Feodosiiovych passed away.
His whole life was an endless devotion to the chosen cause and service to people. He was always sensitive and unindifferent to other people’s problems.
On the occasion of the heavy loss the administration, the staff and students of the university express deep condolences to the family and relatives of Vilen Feodosiiovych.
