Iliin Ihor Ivanovych was born in Uzbekistan. In 1944, the professor fled to the front and became the son of a regiment. For participation in military operations, the young connoisseur was awarded military orders.
In 1950 I.I. Ilyin entered the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports of Odessa Pedagogical Institute, and on its completion – the Pediatric Faculty of Odessa State Medical Institute named after M. I. Pirogov. In 1964, under the direction of Professor F. A. Volynsky Ihor defended his Ph.D. thesis on the topic: “Anatomy of the nerves of a person’s hand”, and in 1972 – a doctoral dissertation on the subject: “Anatomy of the small intestine and its ripples in humans and some vertebrates.” In 2 years, the professor headed the Department of Normal Anatomy. The main direction of the scientific work of the department in these years was the study of morphological changes as a result of adaptation of various parts of the central nervous system, organs and tissues of animals to a complex of adverse factors on marine vessels and the identification of the effectiveness of adaptogens on the nature of these influences.
Professor Iliin worked as vice-rector for scientific work, and in 1984-1994 he was elected the Rector of Odessa State Medical Institute named after M. I. Pirogov.
The results of many years of work were marked by 4 gold medals and 15 diplomas of the USSR Supreme Economic Council.
Iliin Ihor Ivanovych paid special attention to the research work, under his direction, the University’s Museum was significantly replenished with preparations which the students made on their own. Several preparations were awarded patents to the model.
He is the author of 100 scientific works in Human Anatomy, Surgery, Sports Medicine.
Professor Iliin Ihor Ivanovych was a deputy of Odessa City Council of People’s Deputies of various convocations, was elected chairman of Odessa Branch of the All-Union Society of Anatomists, Histologists, Embryologists, Topographic Anatomists.
Professor Ilyin is not only an outstanding graduate! He is the very person who devoted his life, strength and love to Odessa National Medical University.
