Valerii Zaporozhan: Association of Obstetricians-Gynecologists of Ukraine Activates International Partnership

The Association of Obstetricians-Gynecologists of Ukraine (AOGU) is one of the most powerful and active medical associations in the country. This was stated by the President of the Association, academician of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Professor Valerii Zaporozhan at the plenary session on obstetrics and gynecology, which began its work in Kiev.
“Obstetrics and gynecology is one of the most extreme and complex medical specialties. It obliges doctors to study continuously, to improve skills, to implement the latest technologies. The association must create appropriate conditions for this. That’s why for many years the Presidium has been maintaining and developing contacts with leading international organizations, ”said Valerii Zaporozhan.Today, the Association represents the interests of obstetricians-gynecologists of Ukraine in the European Council and the College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists, the World Federation of Obstetricians-Gynecologists, the Union of European Medical Specialists, European professional societies. The AOGU representatives, together with international partners, participated in the development of the Women’s Health Standards in Europe, which are now recommended for use by all EU Member States. The Association adapts international protocols for implementation in Ukraine. “It is impossible to take the American protocol and start working on it, because our clinics are not equipped in the same way, there is no such equipment, we have other drugs licensed. It takes serious professional work by associations to adapt this standard to our realities. That is the only way patients in Ukraine will be able to receive truly international-level medical care, ”the AOGU president added.
In cooperation with the European Council and the College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (EBCOG), the Association participated in the development and implementation of a pan-European medical exam in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology in order to standardize the theoretical and practical knowledge of Ukrainian Doctors and to simplify the procedure of going through the licensing procedure for work in all EU member states.
The Ukrainian Society of Young Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Ukraine has joined the European Network of Traineeships in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Ukrainian interns receive grants for internships at European clinics. With the support of the Ukrainian-Swiss Maternal and Child Health Program, a Simulation Medical Training Center was established.
Improving the professional level of gynicologists-practitioners, obsterricians, nurses, teachers and administrators, as well as enhancing their social protection, remains a separate area of the Association activity. “Ukrainian doctors seek not only to receive a decent salary for their work, but to be in demand in their home country, to have the opportunity to realize themselves as specialists, to study and master modern methods of treatment. This is our global goal, ”Valerii Zaporozhan said.
