The implementation of the international Erasmus+ project “Digital Transformation for Medical Education in Ukraine” (UkraineDigiTrans) is ongoing.

 

The implementation of the international Erasmus+ project “Digital Transformation for Medical Education in Ukraine” (UkraineDigiTrans) continues at Odessa National Medical University. Our university is the coordinator from Ukraine within the framework of this project, which is aimed at strengthening the digital potential of Ukrainian medical institutions of higher education, improving pedagogical skills and developing modern approaches to teaching using innovative digital technologies.

Within the framework of this project, the first stage of the “Train the Trainers Workshop” training series was held from March 31 to April 4, 2025 at the Laurea University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki (Finland). The ONMedU delegation included:

Kateryna Nitochko — Head of the Scientific Department,
Kateryna Usychenko — Head of the Education Quality Assurance Sector,
Tetyana Khimenko — Associate Professor of the Department of Propaedeutics of Pediatrics,
Andriy Ponomarenko — Associate Professor of the Department of Physiology and Biophysics.

The participants studied the design of student-centered learning, modern approaches to assessment, the development of online courses and microcourses, mastered digital tools for distance learning, discussed issues of ethics, teacher well-being, academic sustainability, digital security, and the use of artificial intelligence in the educational process. Special attention was paid to the new roles of the teacher in the context of the digitalization of education.

The training was conducted by leading specialists and teachers of Laurea University of Applied Sciences: Tuja Marstio, Mikael New-Makela, Paulina Punnonen, Ansi Mattila, Tomi Tolonen, Ilkka Vuorikur, as well as Anastasia Rodina-Theoharaki – from Aristotle University (Greece).

The educational event brought together representatives of four Ukrainian higher education institutions – Odessa National Medical University, O.O. Bohomolets National Medical University, Bukovyna State Medical University and Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.

Based on the results of participation in the trainings, ONMedU teachers developed a program for the advanced training course “Pedagogical Mastery. Digital Technologies”, which will start on May 1, 2025. The experience gained will also be used to improve existing educational programs, create new courses and disseminate innovative forms of teaching among university colleagues. In the long term, the project will contribute to the further digital transformation of medical education and the integration of Ukrainian higher education institutions into the European educational space.
