Higher education seekers of the specialty “Medicine” of ONMedU mastered modern first aid skills within the framework of the certificate program “Emergency care. Psychological aspects of first aid. Virtual patient” under the international project SimS

In March-April 2025, the Department of Simulation Medical Technologies of Odesa National Medical University held an educational cycle of the certificate program, which was developed within the framework of the grant project Simulation medicine and Scenario-based learning for emergency care (SimS) for 4th-year higher education seekers of the specialty “Medicine”.

A feature of this program is its innovative teaching methodology, which combines:

theoretical training using the OpenLabyrinth virtual patient platform;

practical mini-trainings that simulate real clinical situations;

scenario-oriented and patient-saving (patient safety) training;
modern approaches to medical simulation.
54 higher education seekers successfully completed the certificate program. During four days of intensive training, four groups of applicants mastered the algorithms for providing assistance in the following cases:

sudden cardiac arrest in adults and children;
poisoning with unknown substances;
convulsions, shocks, carbohydrate metabolism disorders;
anaphylactic conditions and various types of injuries.

Special attention was paid to psychological training. The training participants acquired the skills of psychological self-defense of a medical worker and the basics of first psychological aid to victims in crisis situations.

The practical part was conducted by the department’s tutors, who accompanied the higher education seekers at each stage of training.

Such an integrated approach to the formation of clinical competencies has already proven its effectiveness and brings the quality of training of our higher education seekers to a new level. We are convinced that this experience will become an important component of the professional development of each of them.

We invite everyone to join the department’s next educational events!
