40 years ago, Department of Therapy No. 2 was established at the Faculty of Continuing Medical Education at Odesa Medical Institute named after M. I. Pirogov. Initially, the department consisted of three assistants and one associate professor. The main scientific areas of work are clinical pharmacology, clinical enzymology and hepatology.
In 1998, the Department of Family and Folk Medicine was established on this base, which was later renamed the Department of Family Medicine and General Practice.
Since 2013, the department has been headed by Doctor of Medicine, professor Valentyna Velychko. Overweight, obesity and type 2 diabetes became the main research areas of the specialists. That is, the two most common therapeutic pathologies of the XXI century.
