This national holiday symbolizes the unity of Ukrainians and their solidarity in the face of serious challenges of today. The holiday was introduced in accordance with the Decree of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky “On Urgent Measures to Consolidate Ukrainian Society” dated February 14, 2022.
Since then, Unity Day has acquired great symbolic significance for supporting the patriotic spirit and strength of Ukrainians.
We remember how in the winter of 2022, reports began to spread from Western sources about a possible invasion of Russian troops into the territory of our state. And there were good reasons for this, because Russian troops and equipment were drawn to the borders of Ukraine. Among the possible dates of the invasion was February 16.
The President called on citizens to be patient and calm: “We are told that February 16 will be the day of the attack. We will make it Unity Day…”.
This was a response to an external threat and a reminder of the need to be united both in protecting national interests and in the daily life of the country.
Today, this relatively new holiday has acquired a particularly great significance. For three years, a brutal war has been going on, for three years our Armed Forces of Ukraine have been repelling enemy attacks, for three years huge trials have been going on for Ukrainians. But our country continues to demonstrate its invincibility, strength and unity to the whole world. During this time, our spirit and strength, patriotism, responsibility and ardent faith in Victory, the long-awaited peace and the future of Ukraine have only strengthened!
