KNOW AND REMEMBER

Our university hosts meetings with relatives and friends of ONMedU graduates who died during hostilities in 2023–24. It is very difficult to realize that these handsome young men are no longer among us, because they gave their lives so that we could learn, work, and dream. They fulfilled their civic duty to the end…

On November 12, a meeting with the wife of 2021 graduate Serhii Frolenko, who was a paramedic of the border service and died on September 2, 2024 in Donetsk region as a result of a drone strike on an evacuation group, took place in the museum of history of ONMedU. Serhii was called up for military service in March 2022. For two and a half years, he was in a dangerous war zone and did everything in his power to save wounded soldiers.

The meeting was attended by first-year students of the Faculty of Medicine, the head of the Museum of History Iryna Grabarchuk and the famous Odesa photo artist, representative of the public organization “Free and Faithful” Borys Bukhman.

Serhii Frolenko’s wife, Iryna, shared her memories of her husband’s life and military career, some episodes of his military service. Those present who gathered for this meeting listened to the guest with excitement, asked questions, because they wanted to learn more about the Hero: what he was like, how he studied, what he was passionate about, how he reached his goal…

Iryna gave an expensive gift to the exhibition about Heroes – a shell casing with a teddy bear embossed on it, since Serhii’s call sign was “Bear”, and the emblem of medicine – a cup with a snake, and on the reverse side – the Hero’s surname and initials. This symbol of fighting spirit will remind future generations of future doctors about the feat of our contemporaries — ONMedU graduates, who glorified it on the battlefield for Ukraine.
