The New Administration of ONMedU is Committed to Maximum Openness, – Yurii Sukhin

The conflict between the Ministry of Health and Odessa National Medical University negatively affected the admission campaign and the international image of the higher education institution. This was stated by the a.i. rector of ONMedU Yurii Sukhin on the air of the program “Real Life” on the A1 channel.

He reported that in 2018, at least 200 fewer foreign students entered the first year of studies. In the previous years, the number of foreign freshmen was 1,000 on average. By this time, the situation with the Migration Service has been resolved: the students have received all the documents and are being registered in the university dormitories. “In addition, there were some problems with Ukrainian students, we could not give them student ID cards. Now the issue is resolved.”, Yurii Sukhin said.

At the meeting with student activists, the issue of awarding students for academic achievements was discussed among other things. For these purposes UAH 1.5 million is foreseen.

Yurii Sukhin said that the administration had returned control over the official site of the educational institution and two newspapers issued by ONMedU. The work of official representatives of the university in social networks will soon be fixed too. The a.i. rector assured that the new administration of ONMedU is committed to maximum openness and publicity.

It is to be recalled that the conflict between the Ministry of Health and Odessa Medical University has lasted for about two years. The university has been repeatedly subjected to forceful attacks and blockages on the part of unknown people. The staff of the University has elected the a.i. Rector Yuri Sukhin and appealed to the leadership of the country with gratitude for “solving the situation with the unauthorized takeover of power in the educational institution by outsiders.”
