Roundtable “Academic Integrity and Plagiarism: A Look Through the Centuries” has been held

On May 5, 2025, a meeting of teachers, higher education seekers, and participants who joined as listeners was held at the Department of Social Sciences in a mixed format during the work of the Roundtable with international participation “Academic Integrity and Plagiarism: A Look Through the Centuries”.

Associate Professor of the Department of Social Sciences of ONMedU, Candidate of Historical Sciences Olena Uvarova introduced the higher education seekers to the basic concepts of academic integrity, emphasized the need for its observance by all parties to the educational process and in scientific work.

An invited participant – a researcher at the New Europe College – Institute for Advanced Study (Bucharest, Romania), Candidate of Philology Roman Kyselev presented the results of his study on the perception of plagiarism in Europe before the era of copyright, which aroused the interest of those present.

Associate Professor of the Department of Social Sciences of ONMedU, Candidate of Historical Sciences Tetyana Podkupko-Dyachkova examined the main issues based on the Ukrainian tradition using the example of citations and compilations in Cossack schools and Academies.

The applicants actively participated, who not only received new information, but also made reports. The 1st year higher education seekers of the 4th medical group Viktoriya Odintsova and Veronika Makarenko spoke on the topics “Ukrainian equivalents of medical Latin terms: distortion or plagiarism” and “Borrowing of treatment methods in the history of medicine: plagiarism or creative elaboration” respectively.

The round table became a useful source of information for all participants in the conditions of increasing demands for academic integrity and the inadmissibility of its violation in the educational and academic communities.
