The International Congress of Anaesthesiologists Black Sea Pearl has already taken place six times in Odessa. The organizers tried to make it interdisciplinary: together with anaesthesiologists, resuscitationists, hemostatistists, intensive care specialists from 9 countries of the world gathered on the Black Sea coast. Continuation of a series of blitz interviews with honorary guests of the congress – about Odessa, cooperation, medical reform and the quality of the higher medical school in Ukraine.
Oleksii Hritsan, Head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation of Krasnoyarsk State Medical University named after V.F. Voyno-Yasenetskii, chief anesthesiologist and resuscitator of the Ministry of Health of Krasnoyarsk Region and Siberian Federal District.
How was it possible to find time in your rich schedule for a visit to Odessa?
I was invited by Oleh Tarabrin. It was not my first time here, I was here in 2017 at a conference. Of course, you always want to comprehend the immense, a lot of activities happen almost parallel.
What were your first impressions didn’t you regret that you had chosen Odessa?
Definitely not. The Congress has just begun. I loved listening to the report of Israeli colleagues, I really liked the chamber lecture of academician Valerii Mykolaiovych Zaporozhan on bioethics and neo-ethics, I was impressed with the format.
Have you long been aquainted with Academician Zaporozhian?
No, we were introduced to each other in November 2017 at the opening of the conference. He is an obstetrician-gynecologist, known in the world of obstetric specialists. Not only in Ukraine, but in general in the world.
Do you think ethical lectures are important for doctors?
In fact, yes. Unfortunately, when I was studying, it was still in the USSR, we were not taught to communicate with patients, did not teach many things, which we then encountered. It was only during the last 8-9 years that an understanding began to develop that we have to talk with the patient and that we have to learn how to do that. The whole world is coming to this, it is very important.
What new did you bring to the congress?
How to improve survival in cases of acute respiratory distress syndrome. There are concrete recommendations from many studies, which have been conductued by me. A rather interesting moment associated with the application of REER during anesthesia. An interesting topic is postoperative pulmonary complications. Since 2005, I have been present at the Congress “Euroanesthesia” and there are always reports from Ukraine. Moreover, the European Society of Anesthesiologists has a clinic, and Ukrainian colleagues participate in the research.
How many operations do take part in?
Up to 200 anesthesias per year. My interest is emergency anesthesiology, respiratory support. I was once seriously engaged in obstetrical anesthesiology.
Are there any plans for cooperation with ONMedU?
We have to go to this, of course.
What is the main value of the congress in Ukraine?
Communication and exchange of opinions. It is very important. It does not matter where the patient will be – either in Paris, or in Krasnoyarsk. There is no difference from the point of view of technology, it must be created everywhere. In this sense, communication, exchange of ideas and thoughts cannot be replaced by anything.
