On November 21, Odesa National Medical University held a mixed format seminar “Integrity in Writing Scientific Papers”
Students and young scientists had the opportunity to come to the conference hall of the Department of Physical Rehabilitation, Sports Medicine and Physical Education at the address Olрiivska, 4-А, or join the conference on the Microsoft Teams platform using the previously provided link.
The seminar began with introductory remarks by Svitlana Kotyuzhynska, professor, vice-rector for scientific and pedagogical work, and Olрa Yushkovska, professor, head of theSSS Council.
Next, the speaker of the seminar, Professor Oleksandr Hruzevskyi, Chairman of the Commission on Prevention of Academic Plagiarism of ONMedU, gave a speech on “Principles of Integrity”. He talked about the definition, principles of academic integrity, types, causes of plagiarism and anti-plagiarism examination at ONMedU.
Then the speakers of the seminar gave their presentations.
Andriy Dobrovolskyi, the head of the Society of Young Scientists, spoke about academic guest writing — the use of “ready-made” term papers, theses, and scientific articles — and how artificial intelligence — ChatGPT — is used for this. Andriy also pointed out the differences between the text written by a person and a chatbot.
Associate professor Olena Filonenko showed how programs for checking text for uniqueness work.
A member of the SSS Council, Ilona Vizinska, spoke about her own experience of writing a scientific paper.
