Oleksandr Ivanovych Tkachenko passed away

The staff of Odessa National Medical University announces with deep sadness that at the age of 63, after a serious and long illness, Oleksandr Ivanovych Tkachenko, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Honored Doctor of Ukraine, Head of the Department of Surgery, passed away.

Oleksandr Ivanovych Tkachenko was born in 1958. In 1982 he graduated from Odessa Medical Institute named after M.I. Pirogov, majoring in “General medicine” with honors and passed an internship in Surgery. Until 1987 he worked as a surgeon at the Comintern Central District Hospital of Odessa region. Since 1989, Tkachenko O.I. studied in a clinical residency in the specialty “Surgery” at OMI named after M.I. Pirogov, on the basis of the Odessa regional clinical hospital, under the supervision of the head of the Department of Hospital Surgery prof. A.P. Dotsenko, later was invited to work as a surgeon at emergency surgery at Odessa Regional Clinical Hospital, where he worked for a total of 26 years. In 1993, O.I. Tkachenko got the position of an assistant at the Department of Surgery, from 1994 to 1997 he worked as Deputy Dean of the Medical Faculty of OSMedU. In 1995, Oleksandr Ivanovych did an internship in surgery at Coney Island Hospital New York (USA).

In 1997, O.I. Tkachenko submitted his dissertation on the topic: “Pathogenetic substantiation of the use of laser radiation in the complex treatment of patients with advanced peritonitis.” From 1997 to 2001, O.I. Tkachenko was the chief surgeon of the Department of Health of the Odessa Regional State Administration. Since 1998 – Associate Professor of Surgery, Member of the Board of the Association of Surgeons of Odessa region.

Since 2000, Oleksandr Ivanovych was a member of the European Association of Endoscopic Surgeons, a consultant in surgery of the Odessa Regional Bureau of Forensic Science. Since 2009, Oleksandr Ivanovych Tkachenko specialized in oncosurgery. In 2015, Tkachenko O.I. defended his doctoral dissertation on “Minimally invasive surgery for bile duct pathology”, which is devoted to the development of a modern concept of treatment of patients with choledocholithiasis by improving and implementing minimally invasive surgery on the bile ducts. Since 2016, prof. OI Tkachenko headed the Department of Surgery № 4 with a course in oncology in ONMedU. In August 2016, Oleksandr Ivanovych worked as a surgeon at the First Voluntary Mobile Hospital (PDMS). M. Pirogov in the anti-terrorist operation zone, had the status of a participant in the war. From 2020, O.I. Tkachenko headed the Department of Surgery № 3 of ONMedU.

Prof. O.I. Tkachenko is the author of 125 publications, 5 monographs and 11 patents for inventions.

The university staff highly appreciated Oleksandr Ivanovych for his professionalism and business qualities, and his relatives for his kindness and care. The bright memory of Oleksandr Ivanovych Tkachenko will remain in the hearts of all who knew him!
