Odessa National Medical University received certificates from the International Association of Simulation Training

Odessa National Medical University has been certified by the International Association of Teachers and Standardized Patients (ASPE – Association of Standardized Patient Educators), which deals with simulation training. This was announced by the rector of ONMedU, Academician Valerii Zaporozhan.
“Standardized Patient” (SP) – a methodology used in the educational process to train and test the knowledge of medical professionals. Such a patient can be an ordinary patient with a pre-existing disease or a healthy person trained to portray the patient realistically – to reproduce complaints, characteristic motility, psycho-emotional state, and so on. As part of the training, the student is asked to interact with the SP in the same way as with a real patient. Teachers and medical professionals observe the “reception” from a special room equipped with visualization and audit facilities.
The advantage of this technique is the simulation of simple and complex clinical scenarios, as well as emotionally intense interactions in a safe environment, providing immediate feedback to the student, and is the prevention of harm to patients.
According to Valerii Zaporozhan, ONMedU has all the conditions for working according to this method: special rooms have been equipped with the necessary equipment, a pool of scenarios for disciplines has been developed, classes are held offline and online on the basis of the Microsoft Teams University platform.
ONMedU specialists working with Standardized Patients are active members of the ASPE Association and participants of World Conferences. Most of the Standardized Patients of ONMedU are registered members of the SP community in the ASPE structure, receive regular trainings and report on their work to colleagues from around the world.
For reference. ASPE is an international organization of educators and Standardized Patients that provides simulation training through: promoting best practices in the application of the Standardized Patient methodology for education, assessment and research; promoting the dissemination of research and scholarships in the field of SP methodology; development of professional knowledge and skills of its members; transformation of professional activity due to the power of human interaction. The process of learning and working with Standardized Patients of ONMedU complies with ASPE’s Standards of Best Practice.
