Let’s cherish our native language!
The Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language is traditionally associated with the day of commemoration of the Venerable Nestor the chronicler – writer-hagiographer, the first historian of Kyivan Rus, thinker, scientist, monk of the Kyiv-Pechersk Monastery, with whose name the beginning of the written Ukrainian language is associated.
Our language ranks second in the world after Italian in terms of melody. The wonderful poet-lyricist Volodymyr Sosyura found incredible epithets and similes, praising Ukraine and its beauty: my Ukraine is cherry, its language is a nightingale, because there is no song more beautiful than that of a nightingale.
In Ukrainian, you can express the most subtle feelings and emotions that echo in folk songs and in the works of famous Ukrainian singers.
Traditionally, many events dedicated to the Ukrainian language take place in our country and abroad before this holiday. Among them is the All-Ukrainian radio dictator. On this day, many Ukrainians who want to test their knowledge of grammar participate in writing a dictation. It is also written by representatives of other nations who, as a sign of solidarity with us, have begun to study the Ukrainian language.
In 2024, the Department of Social Sciences of Odesa National Medical University will hold the Week of Ukrainian Writing and Language in 2024 from October 22 to 29, the program of which is very rich: from scientific reports, writing a dictation of national unity, creative competitions to poetry evenings, quizzes and interactive games.
Let’s cherish and protect our language – it is our only one!
