In 2016, ONMedU departments participated in 17 joint programs, agreements and projects aimed at exchanging information and experience, internships, preparation of joint publications, etc. as well as in 18 international clinical studies. Foreign partners in these projects and researches were institutions, organizations and companies from the countries of the European Union (including Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Poland, Romania, and Hungary), the United States of America, Canada, Israel, Turkey, Moldova, Russia and Kazakhstan.
In March 2016, ONMedU participated in the 2nd International Symposium “Bone and Joint Diseases and Age” in Lviv, held jointly by the Austrian Society for Bone and Mineral Research, the Slovak Society for Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Fights, and the Ukrainian Association for Osteoporosis.
On April 21, 2016, ONMedU held a scientific and practical conference with international participation “Modern Theoretical and Practical Aspects of Clinical Medicine” devoted to the 150th anniversary of the birth of D.K. Zabolotny.
From April 24 to May 15, 2016, ONMedU was visited by Professor Xavier David (France). The program of the visit included consultations of patients at the University Clinic and lectures, in particular neurophysiology of pain, for students, interns, doctors and lecturers of ONMedU.
In April 2016, ONMedU was also visited by Professor Mogens Bygge (Sweden). The program of the visit included lectures on surgical treatment of heart diseases, aortic and aneurysm dissection and endocarditis – as a result of purulent and septic complications. Prof. M. Bygge is also taking an active part in the organizational efforts to create the International Club of Honorary Doctors and Visiting Professors of ONMedU.
There was a meeting of the rector of ONMedU, Academician V.M. Zaporozhan with the Ambassador of India in Ukraine Mr. Manoz K. Bhartti. During the meeting, issues of partnership and cooperation were discussed, in particular regarding the recruitment of students from India for studying at ONMedU.
The staff of the department of occupational pathology, clinical laboratory and functional diagnosis participated in the 6th International Scientific and Practical Conference “Peculiarities of the Treatment of Combined Injury in a Special Period” (Odessa, May 5-6, 2016) and in the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Modern Theoretical and Practical Aspects of a Healthy Lifestyle “(Odessa, August 27-30, 2016). The department of occupational pathology, clinical laboratory and functional diagnosis of ONMedU is also taking part in the joint program of the All-Ukrainian Association of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine and the American Association of Clinical Pathologists (USA) to train clinical laboratory staff and control the quality of research in diagnosing AIDS and tuberculosis. A joint memorandum has been drawn up, which has been submitted for signature to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
On May 12-14, an ONMedU delegation participated in the International Congress of Medical Students and Young Doctors “MedEspera, 2016” in Chisinau, Moldova. The rector of ONMedU academician V.M. Zaporozhan received an official letter of thanks for the participation and personal support of the Congress from the rector of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Moldova academician Ion Ababiya.
On May 26, the 12th International Prigozhin Readings “Late Classical Knowledge and heritage of I. Prigozhin: Issues of Thinking and Cognition” organized by the Department of Philosophy and Bioethics of ONMedU were held in ONMedU together with the Department of Philosophy and Methodology of Science of Odessa National Polytechnic University and the Consultation Center of Alphology of Prof. I. Yershova-Babenko.
On May 26-27, ONMedU participated in the 18th Scientific and Practical Conference with international participation “Modern Achievements in Sports medicine, Physical Rehabilitation, Physical Education and Valeology – 2016”, which was presented by the European online rehabilitation service VIDEOREHA. The event was held in Odessa with the support of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, ONMedU as well as the Association of Sports Medicine and Physical Education of Ukraine.
Experts from different regions of Ukraine made a constructive analysis of current trends in sports trauma and rehabilitation, identifying the main benchmarks for development in the professional field. Within the framework of the conference, representatives of VIDEOREHA in Ukraine provided doctors with detailed information on the interactive rehabilitation service for patients. The concept VIDEOREHA was revealed during the mini-exhibition of the Conference as well as within the framework of the scientific program of the event – the participants were presented a report on the topic “Video-rehabilitation of the pathology of the locomotor system”.
On June 7, a member of the international company Thomson Reuters, a specialist in international scientometric resources, Ph.D. I.Tihonkova conducted a seminar “Possibilities of the Web of Science (Thomson Reuters) platform for high-quality research” at ONMedU. The seminar considered practical issues with the Thomson Reuters information resources: the Web of Science information platform, the EndNote Online bibliography program, the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) analytic tool, and the researcher ID.
ONMedU received an official letter from the Department of Security of the UN Office in Ukraine with gratitude to the rector, academician V.M. Zaporozhan for the assistance in carrying out the first medical aid courses for the UN staff in Ukraine as well as to the assistant professor of the Department of Surgery № 2 with the course of pediatric surgery D.O. Samofalov for direct participation in conducting courses. D.O. Samofalov also received an official Certificate for this activity.
D.O. Samofalov also received an official Certificate for the successful completion of the “Advanced Basic Pediatric Access” course from the international organization ITLS (International Trauma Life Support).
The ONMedU staff member O. Osadchy received an official Certificate of successful completion of the International First Aid Treatment Course from the Lithuanian Paramedical Association.
ONMedU also received a Diploma and an official letter of thanks from the organizers of the 7th International Medical Forum “Innovations in Medicine – the Health of the Nation” and the 5th Jubilee Medical Congress “Implementation of Modern Medical Science Achievements in the Practice of Health Care of Ukraine” for the participation and provision of information support to these measures.
ONMedU continues the practice of inviting leading international experts to share experiences, lecturing and establishing regular co-operation. On June, 13-14, lectures were delivered at the University Hospital of ONMedU by Professor Stefano Marinotti from the University of Chieti-Pescara (Italy) on Predictive Medicine. On June 29th, lectures by Professor James T. Rutka, Head of the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto (Canada) and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Neurosurgery were delivered to ONMedU specialists and practitioners of health care services. Topics of the lectures were as follows: perinatal ventricular hemorrhage – neurosurgical tactics; hydrocephalus in pediatric neurosurgery; epileptic surgery; brain tumors – pediatric neurosurgical features; and fetal neurosurgery.
On June 29, professor Andrea Andrade lectured on the topics “Clinical approach to focal epilepsy in children” and “Epileptic encephalopathy in children”.
In November 2016, there was a visit of representatives of Namik Kemal University (Turkey) to ONMedU; negotiations on partnership and cooperation were held.
In 2016, ONMedU conducted two seminars for the heads of departments and those responsible for international activities on ways and means of searching for international medical, scientific and educational programs and grants, for participation and partnership. During the reporting period, the ONMedU departments and units have been actively working on joint research and projects in accordance with educational and scholarly grants (9 in total) that were received from EU, US, and Israel institutions and organizations. The most active part in this activity was taken by the Departments of Internal Medicine No. 2, Propedeutics of Internal Diseases and Therapy, Surgery No. 1.
An associate professor of the Department of Surgery No. 1 with postgraduate training A.V.Malinovsky received a grant from the European Endoscopic Association for 3 months training in Izrael (Assuta Hospital, Tel Aviv) as well as 2 travel grants. The intern of the Department of Family Medicine, General Practice and Medical Rehabilitation D. Kazanzhi completed the Summer School of Bioinformatics course (St. Petersburg, Russia) under the grant from the Institute of Bioinformatics of St. Petersburg Academic University. A postgraduate student of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care with postgraduate training V.O. Ivanova received a grant for 3 months internship in Israel.
During the reporting period, specialists from the departments and units of ONMedU actively visited foreign countries for business meetings, qualifications or speeches at congresses, conferences and symposiums held in the EU countries (in particular, in Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Belgium, Norway, etc.) as well as in the United States, Switzerland, Korea, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia and Moldova.
Totally, there were 85 trips, including trips to participate in foreign congresses, symposiums, conferences – 70, internships and trainings abroad – 15.
Particularly active work was carried out by representatives of the departments of “Simulation medicine”, “Propedeutics of internal diseases and therapy”, “Ophthalmology”, “Surgery No1” “Otorhinolaryngology”, “Obstetrics and gynecology No 1”, “Obstetrics and gynecology No2” , “Internal medicine No2”, “Internal medicine No 4”, “Surgery No2”, “Pediatrics No2”, “Neurology”. 85 specialists from 25 departments of ONMedU participated in these trips, speeches and reports.
ONMedU received an official letter from the Secretary General of the International Academic Association Magna Charta Observatory inviting them to join in international efforts to provide and support the fundamental principles of institutional autonomy and academic freedom.
ONMedU received an official letter of thanks from the authorities of the multilingual program Many Languages, One World, for the trip of the graduate of ONMedU Oleksandr Petrenko to New York and his speech at the UN General Assembly Hall. He also received an official letter of thanks from the University of British Columbia for participating in Vancouver Summer Program (VSP) seminars at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC).
A representative of ONMedU Professor Yu. Romanova received official certificates for participation in the World Congress of Dentists (Poznan, Poland, September 5-10) and in the International Autumn Seminar of Dentistry (Lopota, Georgia, September 11-13). The student of ONMedU V. Chubach participated in the 31st European Congress on Epilepsy, which took place on September 13-16 in Prague (Czech Republic).
Four students of ONMedU had training in Austria: A.Sliusar (5th year) specializing in cardiology at the Landesklinikum Hospital (Horn), D.Musliyeva (6th year) in the field of cardiac surgery at the Allgemeines Krankenhaus Hospital (Vienna Main Hospital) from 04.04.2016 to July 29, 2016, and O. Cheban (6th year) in the field of anesthesiology and intensive care at the Landesklinikum Hospital (Amstetten) and A. Curando (5th year) specializing in vascular surgery at the KH der Barmherzigen Brüder Hospital ( Linz) from 01.08.2016 to 08.26.2016.
A student of ONMedU G.Romanov passed an internship at the company PETRAMED, Chadz, Slovenia) on August 8-19 and received an official certificate.
On October, 15 the Vice Rector on scientific and pedagogical (international) activity, prof. V.G.Marychereeda participated in the training on the ERASMUS European Academic Mobility Project. Employees of ONMedU N.O.Malinovska and M.M. Kashtlayan took part in the first stage of the international program of the “International Offices: Best Practices” of the British Council. The staff member of the International Department of ONMedU, Associate Professor O.V.Mandel, gave an interview to representatives of three American newspapers during his trip to the United States.
In October 2016, ONMedU participated in the International Forum “Innovation in Modern Education” and received the Diploma and the title of the 1st Class Prize winner in the nomination “Innovations for the intensification of international cooperation in the field of education, science and culture”.
Fifteen students and postgraduate students were sent abroad for participation in scientific, educational, cultural events, contests and sports competitions; two of them received awards as prize winners and laureates, in particular from the Departments of Internal Medicine No. 2 and Physical Rehabilitation, Sports Medicine, Physical Education and Valéology.
