In the conditions of quarantine and pandemic СOVID-19 the Department of Pediatrics №1 and Odessa Association of Pediatricians and Neonatologists continues its remote activities of the unremitting professional education system

A regular meeting of Odessa Association of Pediatricians and Neonatologists was held on 16.05.2020 in the form of an online seminar (webinar) and was devoted to the topic “Experience and challenges of the pediatric service during the pandemic COVID-19″. The event was held with the participation and support of the Department of Health of the Odessa Regional State Administration, the Department of Health of the Odessa Regional Council and Odessa Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital”.

The online platform ZOOM was able to accept and register 88 neonatologists, pediatricians, therapists, family doctors, anesthesiologists and doctors of other specialties from different regions of Ukraine. More than 400 people watched the live online seminar!

The meeting was opened by the chairman of the Odessa Association of Pediatricians and Neonatologists, Corresponding Member of NAMS of Ukraine, Professor Aryaev Mykola Leonidovych.

Member of the Board, Ph.D. Senkivska Lyudmyla Ivanivna provided new information about changes in the system of continuing vocational education in connection with the quarantine.

Speakers of the webinar were: Shkurupiy Dmytro Anatoliyovych, MD, Professor, Head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care of the Ukrainian Medical Dental Academy (report “COVID-19: the experience of the humanitarian mission of Ukrainian doctors in Italy”), Tsiunchyk Yuliya Hennadiivna, Ph.D. MD, Associate Professor of Pediatrics №1 Odessa National Medical University (report “Modern challenges to the pediatric service during the pandemic COVID-19.”)  During the online seminar, participants learned about the experience of combating COVID-19 infection, received from their Italian colleagues, who will help in the treatment of patients with SARS-CoV2 coronavirus in our country, learned about alternative views on the pathogenesis of SARS-CoV2 infection, learned about the features of the immune response in COVID-19 infection, received up-to-date information on the effectiveness of pharmacological drugs in COVID- 19 infection, listened to a digest of news about the COVID-19 pandemic in the world.

Based on the recommendations of WHO, the American Academy of Pediatrics, taking into account the available evidence, good practice, conclusions and expert advice, recommendations were provided for the organization of medical facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Particular attention was paid to anti-epidemic measures in the hospital. The importance, expediency and rules of use of personal protective equipment by medical workers were determined.

At the end of the reports, the webinar participants had an opportunity to ask questions and get comprehensive answers and chat.

During the active discussion, not only the speakers of the event, but also prof.  Ariaev M.L. gave answers to the questions.

At the end of the webinar, which was held free of charge, participants answered test control questions and received electronic certificates confirming their participation in the online seminar.
