For three days we had honorable guests, representatives of sunny Italy, the wonderful Apennine Peninsula, Professor Stefano Martinotti (University of Chieti-Pescara) and Antonio Domenico Giuliano Prokopio (University of Ancona), who is also the Vice-Rector of the Italian National Institute for Aging Problems, in the walls of our university.
On Saturday, May 18, our guests made interesting reports based on the results of their own researches and those conducted in collaboration with ONMedU research staff for the scientists of Odessa National Medical University, among them, in particular, there were the vice-rector for scientific and pedagogical work Professor V.H. Marichereda, a.i. Vice-rector on scientific and pedagogical work professor R. S. Vastyanov, professor O. I. Ignatiiev, the head of the interdisciplinary laboratory of ONMedU, director of the Institute of Translational Medicine, associate professor G. A. Shapovalova, the head of the educational and production laboratory of molecular pathology O. Morozyuk, employees of departments, postgraduate students, staff of the Institute of Translational Medicine.
Speeches by guests on immunogenetic and epigenetic research in the field of oncology, oncogynecology and obstetrics, aroused considerable interest among those present. After each report, professors answered numerous questions from university researchers who were interested in the possibility of application, in particular microRNA, from the point of view of early, pre-clinical diagnosis and prognosis of ovarian cancer development, as well as individual humoral components and protein substances as potential markers for the development of socially significant multifactorial diseases. The activity of the immune system, namely, the biological activity of cells, which by definition are natural killers, at the of the onset and in the course oncological pathology developement, also became the subject of a long discussion of the present ones.
After the lecture part, the scientific event moved to the educational-production laboratory of molecular pathology, which is the structural unit of ONMedU. The guests, together with the laboratory staff and the director of the Institute of Translational Medicine, assistant professor G. A. Shapovalov, inspected all the premises, interviewed representatives of the mass media.
Summarizing all the said above, let us note the extraordinary importance of this visit by the two Italian professors who came to continue the collaboration that had been initiated before, taking into account the possibilities of the Institute of Translational Medicine, the interdisciplinary laboratory and the educational and production laboratory of molecular pathology. Taking into account the fact that the laboratories of ONMedU unconditionally meet the requirements of modern world technologies in the scientific-diagnostic and clinical field, as well as the potential of the scientists of ONMedU, our guests held long-term negotiations with the university administration and interested scientists.
The outcome of the visit was the start of a new joint international research project on oncology and oncogynecology. Also, agreements were reached in the framework of agreements on cooperation between universities, on the training of ONMedU staff in research and clinical laboratories run by the professors – the guests of ONMedU, which is very important for solving current problems of modern medicine.
