Halyna Yukhimivna Wenger has completed her earthly journey

On February 9, at the age of 82, Halyna Yukhimivna Wenger, an Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Ophthalmology from 1992 to 2011, completed her earthly journey. A virtuoso ophthalmic surgeon, a talented scientist, an excellent physician, an excellent teacher, an ancestor of the ophthalmic dynasty, an intelligent, kind, beautiful and wonderful woman. Her whole life is service to people and endless devotion to her chosen work.
Halyna Yukhimivna was born in 1940 in Mykolaiv. After graduating from Odessa Medical Institute from 1963 to 1992 she worked at Odessa Research Institute of Ophthalmology and Tissue Therapy named after Academician V.P. Filatov. She was first a researcher, then the head of the group of eye injuries .
In 1992 she was elected head of the Department of Ophthalmology (Ophthalmology) of Odesa State Medical University.
From 1995 to 1997 she was a deputy of the Odesa regional council.
From 2002 to 2014 she combined the position of the Head of the Department of Ophthalmology and the management of Odessa City Clinical Hospital No. 4 with the Center for Eye Microsurgery as the Chief Physician.
Under the guidance of Professor Wenger H. Yu. 13 candidate dissertations were completed and defended, her students work in the best clinics not only in our country but all over the world.
Halyna Yukhimivna is the author of more than 300 scientific works. She proposed a number of original new operations, for which she received 16 copyright certificates and 20 patents of Ukraine.
For many years she was a member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the Society of Ophthalmologists of Ukraine and an honorary member of the Association of Pediatric Ophthalmologists of Ukraine.
She was awarded the Order of Princess Olga III, a platinum diploma “Golden Hands of Ukraine” with the honorary title – a model of professionalism – in 2008 diploma “Legend of Ophthalmology” for outstanding services and significant contribution to the development of ophthalmology from the Society of Ophthalmologists of Ukraine in 2010.
For more than 50 years, her “golden hands” restored sight to tens of thousands of patients.
She passed on her love and devotion to her chosen profession not only to her many students, but also to her daughter and grandchildren.
A solemn memorial service will be held on February 12 at 14:00 at Tairovsky cemetery near the crematorium.
