The state enterprise “Ukrainian State Center of International Education” of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (hereinafter – USCIE) organized the Fourth Ukrainian Forum of International Educationon on April 10, 2024 in the city of Kyiv – this is one of the largest events, which are held according to the Decision of the Cabinet of Ministers on popularizing opportunities for obtaining higher education in Ukraine by foreign students.
Participants of the forum were welcomed by:
Mykhailo VYNNYTSKY, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine,
Olena SHAPOVALOVA, director of the state enterprise “Ukrainian State Center for International Education”,
Volodymyr BUGROV, rector of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University.
Olga Honcharenko, dean of the international faculty, and Vadym Maidan, head of the department of international educational programs, took part in the forum (online) from Odesa National Medical University.
Six hours of intense communication:
Detailed analysis from USCIE regarding the number and motivation of foreign students who continue their studies in Ukraine even during the war.
External quality assurance of higher education in comparison of Ukrainian realities and European imperatives by Natalia Stukalo, deputy head of NAHEQU Ruslan Gurak, the Head of the Ukrainian Academy of Social Sciences, shared the results of inspections of the training of foreigners in Ukraine.
Maria Lypyatzka, head of BRAND UKRAINE, spoke about the image of Ukraine as an educational destination.
The current problems with the recognition of foreign qualifications and how are they solved in today’s difficult conditions were analyzed by Victoria Serhienko, director of the SE “Information and Image Center”.
Olha Valetenko, Deputy Director of the Department – Head of the Department for Temporary and Permanent Residence of Foreigners and Stateless Persons of the State Migration Service of Ukraine – told what to pay attention to during martial law when issuing temporary residence permits to foreign students.
What changes have taken place regarding the requirements for the documents of foreign students to cross the border – was told by Yuriy Kovalchuk, senior officer of the passport work department of the Border Control Organization Department of the State Border Protection Department of the State Border Service. In addition, he answered the numerous questions of the participants about what measures the educational institution should take so that foreign students cross the state border without delay.
A separate session was devoted to the exchange of experience and cases of partnership development with foreign educational institutions (Great Britain, the USA), the study of new trends and features of the implementation of double diplomas during the war.
Experience was shared by representatives of organizations and leading institutions of higher education in Ukraine – Olga Budnyk, Nataliya Grynko, Svitlana Shytikova, Halyna Protsik, Ksenia Smirnova, Olena Tsyrkun.
Problems and ways to solve them were discussed together.
The forum will end with a clear understanding that we work in a close circle of like-minded people, with mutual support and awareness of the goal – Ukrainian higher education is interesting to foreign students!
