We are pleased to announce that in April 2025, Odessa National Medical University has become an affiliated member of the Society for Simulation in Europe (SESAM), one of the most powerful organizations developing simulation technologies for medical education.
SESAM was founded 30 years ago in Copenhagen. The mission of the SESAM community is to encourage and support the use of simulation training and research in healthcare. SESAM members have a wide and diverse experience in healthcare and medical education and are interested in medical simulation.
Our university will be connected to the SESAM Simulation Centers Network Project, which unites all simulation centers across Europe, both large and small, into one network that will be accessible to everyone via the SESAM website, and will ensure better communication and information exchange between centers.
In addition, from 2026, our university will be able to participate in the “SESAM Sim University” project. This SESAM initiative invites interdisciplinary teams of four students from different European countries to compete against each other by participating in simulation scenarios, combining clinical challenges, practical experience and teamwork. The scenarios include major emergencies (anaphylaxis, myocardial infarction, etc.) and demonstrate the level of knowledge/skills of the students. During the competition, after completing each scenario, students are briefed by experienced facilitators, focusing on the development of non-technical skills such as leadership, situational awareness, decision-making, communication and assertiveness, as well as clinical thinking in a team. Remote online selections are held at the beginning of the year, and successful teams are invited to the finals at the annual SESAM meeting.
We are beginning the process of international accreditation of our university in the European simulation space.
