Day of Slavic writing and culture

“The greatest and most precious good of every nation is its language, that living hiding place of the human spirit, its rich treasury, in which the nation puts both its ancient life and its hopes, mind, experience, and feelings.”
Panas Mirnyi

On May 24, the Day of Slavic Literature and Culture was celebrated in Ukraine. The holiday was established in accordance with the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated September 17, 2004 No. 1096/2004 to honor the memory of Saints Equal-to-the-Apostles Cyril and Methodius. Celebrating this day reminds us that language and culture are the foundation of national identity. They unite us, help preserve traditions and values.

Ukrainian culture has ancient roots that go back to the beginning of the Slavic world. Cyril and Methodius brought the Cyrillic alphabet to our land, which became the impetus for the creation of a unique culture in the following centuries.

Last week, the Department of Social Sciences organized a number of events with the winners – presentations, reports, video viewing. Ukrainian traditional culture was discussed, its modern interpretation was considered, its diversity and spiritual and practical significance were revealed. Winners were invited to take a thematic quiz.

Slavic cultural traditions have a worthy continuation in our time.
