This holiday is celebrated on the day of the proclamation of the Act of the Unification of the Ukrainian People’s Republic and the West Ukrainian People’s Republic in 1919. We also recall another important historical event – the declaration of independence of the Ukrainian People’s Republic from Russia, which took place a year earlier – on January 22, 1918.
These historical facts completely destroy the claims of Russian propaganda that the Ukrainian state did not exist and that it was created by Lenin.
The act of annexation became a historical event of the unification of Ukrainian lands into one state and crowned the conciliar aspirations of both parts of the country – the western and eastern, which for a long time were divided among themselves by the borders of the empires of that time, and is a fundamental milestone of Ukrainian statehood.
Unfortunately, due to the failure of the Ukrainian revolution of 1917-1921, statehood could not be preserved. And in the 20th century, Ukrainians continued their struggle for the restoration of their independence, which took place on August 24, 1991.
A difficult fate befell Ukraine!
Years of struggle for the right to be an independent, free, sovereign state… Finally, the achievement of this goal, 30 years of development — and the aggressive attack of neighboring Russia to take Ukrainian lands and destroy our state…
Currently, our eastern regions and Crimea are under occupation. There is a fierce struggle with the enemies to throw them out of Ukraine forever.
Today, 105 years after the promulgation of the Act of Unification, Ukrainians are more than ever united in their desire to defend their state. And after our victory and the de-occupation of all captured territories, Ukraine will restore its sovereignty.
This is our common goal, faith and hope!
