In November 2022, the rector of Odesa National Medical University, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Valerii Zaporozhan, approved the “Plan of measures to promote the functioning of the Ukrainian language at ONMedU”.
According to the mentioned Plan, among the professors and teaching staff and students, informational, educational and explanatory work is constantly carried out regarding the legislative and regulatory framework on the status of the Ukrainian language.
The educational process is carried out in accordance with the requirements of the legislation of Ukraine in the state language. Curricula and work programs, methodical support of educational disciplines, exam materials, documentation of subject (cycle) commissions and methodical offices are conducted exclusively in Ukrainian.
In order to popularize the idea of language functioning, keeping business documentation and carrying out the educational process in accordance with the requirements of the law, additional permanent courses were organized for employees and students of ONMedU at the Department of Social Sciences under the leadership of the head of the department, Associate Professor Olga Sykorska. At the specified course, you can also prepare for the exam to certify the level of proficiency in the state language and obtain the corresponding certificate.
An intensive Ukrainian language course has been developed for students of the international faculty. At the beginning of the next semester, the elective course “Communicative signs of speech culture” will be introduced for senior students.
The website of the university, the columns of the magazines “Pulse” and “His Majesty – The Patient” contain materials on public holidays, culture, traditions of Ukraine and events held at the university, such as the “Week of Ukrainian Writing and Language”, “Shevchenko Days”, International Mother Language Day, Independence Day, Embroidery Day.
Students of various years and young scientists of ONMedU take an active part in competitions of creative research and research works on the history of Ukraine and the Ukrainian language.
The administration will continue to promote the functioning of the Ukrainian language at Odesa National Medical University in accordance with the requirements of Ukrainian legislation.
