Vyshyvanka Day is a relatively young but already extremely popular holiday in Ukraine, celebrated every year on the third Thursday of May. This year it is May 15.
The holiday was started in 2006 on the initiative of Lesya Voroniuk, then a student at Chernivtsi National University. She suggested that everyone should wear vyshyvankas for one day to popularize Ukrainian culture. The initiative quickly spread, even outside of Ukraine.
Over the years, Vyshyvanka Day has turned into a holiday of national unity that unites Ukrainians all over the world. On this day, people wear vyshyvankas to work, study, organize flash mobs, photo shoots, cultural events, fairs, etc.
At ONMedU, at the Department of Social Sciences (Head, Candidate of Philology, Assoc. Prof. Olga Sikorska), this week, during the teaching of “Folk Psychology”, Candidate of History, Assoc. Prof. Tetyana Podkupko suggested that applicants, using artificial intelligence (https://vyshyvka.ukrzen.in.ua), encode their own name in cross-stitch embroidery, creating a unique individual wish for themselves or loved ones.
