The Staff of Odessa Medical University Thanked the President for Liberation from the Raiders

The staff of Odesa Medical University thanked President Petro Poroshenko, Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman and the Head of the Supreme Council Andriy Parubii for solving the situation with the unauthorized seizure of power in the educational institution by outsiders. This is stated in a letter signed by the staff of the university.
The signatories note that after half a year of moral and psychological pressure the elected by the staff and students a.i. rector Yurii Sukhin has set out to performing his duties. Payment of salaries and scholarships has now been resumed.
The staff hope that in the future neither the Ministry of Health, which contrary to the law appointed the former vice minister of the Ministry of Health Vladlena Dubinina the a.i. rector of ONMedU, nor any other unauthorized persons will interfere with the work of the university. “The head of an institution of higher education is an elected post, therefore, the workers and students have the right to decide themselves who will head the university, even temporarily. We are convinced that Ukraine is a law-governed state, therefore, such principles as autonomy and self-government of higher education institutions should operate and be binding on all, including state government bodies”, the letter reads.
We will remind you that on December 10, the state executives unblocked the work of the university: in compliance with the decision of the District Administrative Court of Kyiv, the administrative offices of ONMedU as well as the Rector’s Office were liberated, while the a.i. rector Yurii Sukhin, who had been elected by the staff and students, was able to set out to performing his duties.
Since July, the university was inspected by the Ministry of Health, rector Valerii Zaporozhan was fired, the building was captured by so-called “titushniki” who were destroying the property and blocking the premises. During this time, the Ministry of Health appointed first Konstyantyn Aimedov and then Vladlena Dubinina to head ONMedU. Both ordinances were adopted in violation of the current legislation and excess of powers of the ministry.
