The language of my soul: Days of Ukrainian writing and language at ONMedU

Language is one of the greatest assets of the whole nation and of each person in particular. It is language that contributes to the formation of the national picture of the world, roots new generations in the soil of spirituality.

In order to improve the general culture of speech, instilling love for the Ukrainian language by the staff of the Department of Social Sciences, headed by associate professor Sikorska O.O. in the period from November 8 to 12, 2021, a number of educational events were held (online), dedicated to the Day of Ukrainian Literature and Language, which is celebrated annually on November 9.

Among them are the Olympiad in the Ukrainian language, thematic lectures, discussions, presentations and reports, writing creative essays, reciting poems, round table, watching videos, etc., organized by the staff – Associate Professor O.O. Sikorska, Senior Teacher Shanina O.S., associate professor Uvarova O.O., associate professor Podkupko-Dyachkova T.L., associate professor Kulachynsky M.M. Foreign students also took part in the events. Abu Aish Yousef, a first-year student of the 3rd pharmcy group of the international faculty, prepared a report on the topic “Taras Shevchenko – an outstanding Ukrainian poet”.

On November 9, 2021, the All-Ukrainian dictation of national unity, organized by the National Public Television and Radio Company of Ukraine, was written remotely by 2nd and 4th groups of the 1st year medical students under the guidance of the head, associate professor O.O. Sikorska and senior teacher Shanina O.S. The results of the dictation showed that students have sufficient knowledge of Ukrainian spelling.

During the week, teachers organized the preparation of student reports and presentations on the topics: “Nestor the Chronicler”, “Interesting facts about the Ukrainian language” and others. Given the professional orientation, the following topics were proposed: “Word heals”, “Physiology of language”, “Communication doctor-patient “,” Use of the Ukrainian language in medical activities “.

The poetic events organized by associate professor Uvarova O.O. were incredibly sensual and inspiring. 1st year medical students of the 6th group recited their favorite works by L. Kostenko, I. Franko, V. Stus, modern poets, discussed topics of patriotism, faith, love, strength of soul during the event on “Poem of my soul”. 1st year medical students of the 5th group became participants of the poetic event “Ukraine in the works of classics” and presented poems by V. Saussure, O. Oles, I. Franko, T. Shevchenko, L. Kostenko. There were lines: “love Ukraine with all your heart”, “study, love your language”, “live, Ukraine, live for beauty, for strength, for truth, for freedom!”.

A person can speak many languages, but the best, the most perfect must know the native language. After all, the native language is the magical instrument to the sounds of which the thinnest and most delicate strings of the human soul respond.

The events which were held contributed to the education of the younger generation in the spirit of patriotism, respect for their history, culture, as well as the promotion and respect for the Ukrainian language by representatives of national minorities and foreigners.
