School of Diabetes and Overweight

Every year on November 14, the World Diabetes Day is celebrated. It was introduced in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization in response to the growing threat of diabetes worldwide.

On 12.02.2020, an educational project – School of Diabetes and Overweight was created on the basis of the Department of Family Medicine of Odessa National Medical University under the leadership of Dr. of Med Sciences, professor, head of the Department of Family Medicine Valentyna Ivanivna Velychko . The main goal of the School is to provide support to adults and children living with diabetes, overweight / obesity, and their relatives; informing the population about risk factors for development and symptoms of diabetes and obesity, promoting a healthy lifestyle. It is also an integral part of the work to improve the professionalism of primary care physicians to improve the detection and treatment of diabetes and overweight / obesity.

Today, due to the COVID-19 epidemic and anti-epidemic measures, the School of Diabetes and Overweight temporarily does not consult patients, but remotely trains primary care physicians in the management and treatment of patients with diabetes and overweight in adults and children.
