On May 15, a regular meeting of the Academic Council was held in lecture hall No. 1 of the main building of Odessa National Medical University.
The meeting began with a ceremonial part. The Chairman of the Academic Council presented Honorary Certificates from Odesa Regional State Administration for merits in the development of medical science and practice, active inventive work and on the occasion of the Day of Science to Professors Yuriy Sukhin and Leonid Godlevsky, a professor’s certificate to Iryna Annenkova, Gennadii Stepanov and Olga Reizvikh, and an associate professor’s certificate to Igor Ostapenko and Oksana Svitlychna.
According to the agenda, the first issue concerned changes in the structure of the institution. The rector of the university, academician Valerii Zaporozhan, said in his speech: “Firstly, in order to optimize the structure of the university, improve the quality of educational activities and taking into account the increasing relevance of reconstructive surgery and oncological pathology, I propose to reorganize the Department of Surgery, Radiodiagnosis, Radiation Medicine, Therapy and Oncology from September 1, 2025 by creating two departments on its basis: the Department of Surgery with postgraduate education and the Department of Oncology, Reconstructive Surgery, Radiology and Radiation Medicine with a staffing schedule according to the educational load. And secondly, in connection with the launch of new educational programs for the first and second levels of higher education and in order to optimize the implementation of educational programs, I propose to rename the Faculty of Pharmacy to the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy from September 1, 2025. The staffing of the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy should be approved at 2.5 staff units.”
The proposal was approved unanimously.
Professor Olena Voloshyna gave a thorough presentation on the work of the departments of internal medicine of ONMedU for 2020–2025, which include the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases and Therapy, Department of Internal Medicine No. 2 with Postgraduate Education, Department of Internal Medicine No. 1, and Department of Occupational Pathology and Functional Diagnostics and Phthisiopulmonology. She focused on the achievements of each department, and also outlined common goals and prospects: “The prospects for improving undergraduate and postgraduate education at the departments of internal medicine are the improvement of educational, scientific, clinical, and international activities, the creation of a common basis with other departments of the university for the sustainable development of ONMedU as a leading educational, research, and clinical center of Southern Ukraine in the global academic and scientific space.”
The head of the internship department, Associate Professor Viktoriya Khatsko, reported on the features of training and admission to internship in 2025, the results of passing the “Krok-3” licensing integrated exam. Concluding her report, she suggested ways to improve the quality of internship training, including: introducing an assessment of acquired practical skills in the form of an objective structured practical exam in the specialties “Dentistry” and “Pharmacy”; concluding cooperation agreements with healthcare institutions with an emphasis on fulfilling the requirements of the “Regulations on Internship” in order to increase the efficiency of training interns; making the most extensive use of the University Clinic as a priority base for internships for interns in order to effectively combine educational, scientific and practical activities.
During the meeting, the Academic Council, by secret ballot with the election of a counting commission, approved the appointment of the heads of 12 university departments elected through the Competition.
Among other issues that were submitted for consideration by the Academic Council and on which decisions were made, the following were: awarding an academic title, issuing Doctor of Philosophy diplomas, approving educational and scientific programs and the “Regulations on the Transfusion Immunology Laboratory of the Department of Laboratory Diagnostics and Molecular Genetic Research”, providing recommendations for the publication of the “Ukrainian-English Explanatory Dictionary of Medical Terms” by the team of compilers under the editorship of Academician V. M. Zaporozhan; “Odesa Medical Journal” No. 2 (193), 2025 and the monograph “Current Problems of Water Supply for the Rural Population” by the team of authors.
