March 14 is Ukrainian Volunteer Day

This memorable date was established in 2017 by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to honor the courage and heroism of the defenders of the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state.

On that day in 2014, 500 volunteer fighters of the Maidan Self-Defense went to the training base in the village of Novi Petrivtsi directly from the Maidan of Independence to form the first volunteer battalion. These men and women, following the call of their hearts, went to the East of Ukraine to protect it from the aggressor.

In the same year, the formation of the ranks of Teroborona began.

In addition to the first two battalions, another 27 battalions of volunteers took part in the battles in the summer of 2014, and a total of 40 battalions took part in the war in Donbas. Thanks to these formations, which were created and sent to the combat zone, it was possible to revive a combat-ready army and prevent the enemy from advancing deep into Ukraine.

So today is a holiday of courage, heroism, devotion and patriotism, which our compatriots showed 10 years ago. They fight bravely and courageously even now.

Glory to the heroes!
