Communication without limits continues

On October 16, the team of the Center for training and OSCI taking (O.P. Rogachevsky, A. Dobrovolsky) and members of the student scientific society of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology # 1 ( head  – O.O. Sadovnycha) held another meeting of the Discussion Club in the new format thanks to the joint efforts of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology # 1 (Head of the Department Professor I.S. Gladchuk, head teacher A.G. Volyanska), Dean’s Office of the International Faculty (deputy deans  O.V. Goncharenko, V.N. Kukushkin) at the Center for Training and OSCI taking.

Discussion of topical issues and problems of patient counseling took place during  multimedia presentations, with a discussion of common mistakes that doctors make when communicating with patients.

The participants of the Discussion Club were 4th and 6th year students, not only from Ukraine but also from Israel, Tunisia, Iraq, Turkey and India.

Foreign and Ukrainian students had the opportunity to work out tactics and strategy of communication using professional English to contact the patient, create a friendly atmosphere that promotes confidence in the doctor, ensuring the effectiveness of counseling, making informed decisions in different situations.

The second part of the meeting was held in the format of a workshop “Advising“ problematic ”patients” with the participation of standardized patients. Students were trained in situations  as close to real as possible:

– “Consultation of a childless couple where each partner transfers” guilt “to another”;

– “Patient (introvert) with chronic diseases”;

– “The patient whose visit was to invite a doctor for a cup of coffee”;

– “Angry patient who has spent considerable time waiting for a doctor”;

– “The doctor who does not pay attention to the patient being engaged into some other stuff.”

Each case was discussed with the participants. The discussion was moderated by the assistant of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology # 1 N.M. Kashtalyan. The head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology # 1, Professor I. Z. Gladchuk , who also participated in the discussion and spoke about his own experience. The members of the Discussion Club meeting emphasized the importance and necessity of conducting such counseling trainings. They also expressed their wishes for the introduction of modern educational technologies into the educational process.
