On January 30, a regular meeting of the Academic Council of Odesa National Medical University was held on the Microsoft Teams platform. The agenda included issues related to the educational process, international activities and further development of the institution.
The head of the examination commission, professor of ONU named after I. I. Mechnikov Olena Sadchenko, reported on the certification of graduates of the educational and professional program “Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Business Management” for the second master’s level of higher education in the specialty 073 “Management”. She noted that the graduate students showed a sufficiently high level of preparation, as evidenced by the results of the defense of qualification works. All graduates successfully passed the defense, therefore the examination commission recommended awarding them the qualification “Master of Management” in the specialty 073 “Management”. In her report, she emphasized that today medicine is not just the treatment of diseases, it is a system in which every detail matters. Management in medicine plays a key role in ensuring the efficiency, sustainability and accessibility of medical services. And thanks to the teachers of the ONMedU Department of Management, students have mastered not only theoretical principles, but also gained practical skills that will allow them to cope with the challenges of the future.
The Chairman of the Academic Council Valerii Zaporozhan made a proposal to make changes to the structure of the Odesa National Medical University. In order to expand the range of services at the level of professional pre-higher education in the specialty I1 “Dentistry” of the educational and professional level of a professional junior bachelor, consider the possibility of creating a separate unit within Odesa National Medical University – the Professional Medical College of Odesa National Medical University. In connection with the introduction of educational activities in the new specialty I5 “Nursing” of the educational and qualification level “bachelor”, to ensure a high-quality educational process in the educational and professional programs “Cosmetology”, “Obstetrics” and “Emergency Medicine” – the establishment of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Nursing. In order to systematize and increase the efficiency of career guidance work at Odesa National Medical University, as well as in view of the opening of a number of new specialties in 2025, a marketing, communications and public relations department was created on the basis of ONMedU.
The Academic Council approved the proposal.
The first vice-rector of the university, Professor Valeria Marichereda, made a report “On the state of international work at Odesa National Medical University in 2024”. She reported: “During the reporting period, the university, within the framework of the ONMedU Internationalization Strategy, continues to actively implement international activities, which are carried out in the process of international cooperation of all representatives of the university’s academic community with various institutions representing scientific schools and areas from different countries of the world. In conditions of martial law, when education is faced with such challenges and difficulties as migration and limited mobility of applicants and teachers, reduced infrastructure and resources, stress and psychological pressure, internationalization opens up new horizons and contributes to the construction of a strong and sustainable education system in Ukraine, and also opens up new opportunities for attracting international support. We can confidently state that in conditions of a brutal war, the total volume of ONMedU’s international activities continues to grow.”
Also, the first vice-rector of the university, Professor Valeria Marichereda, informed the members of the Academic Council about the further development of the institution. The Academic Council approved the Concept of Strategic Development of Odesa National Medical University for the period 2025–2030.
The Academic Council approved several important provisions regulating the educational and scientific process, medical activities of ONMedU departments. The Academic Council also supported the creation of one-time specialized councils and recommended for publication the next issue of the Odesa Medical Journal and a number of teaching and methodological manuals authored by university employees.
