Days of the Ukrainian writing and language at ONMedU

From October 22 to 29, the Department of Social Sciences held a Week dedicated to the Day of the Ukrainian Writing and Language. These events, as noted by the modern Ukrainian writer Yurii Andruhovych, are not only a means of communication, but also a reflection of our culture, history and dreams. The teachers demonstrated thematic videos, told interesting facts about the history of the origin of the Ukrainian language, held lectures-discussions about modern trends in the Ukrainian language, the use of the language in the media, social networks, and the influence of foreign languages. Quizzes were offered, including the university-wide quiz “How well do you know the Ukrainian language?”, intellectual and entertaining games and tests.

A cycle of events was started with the higher education seekers of the 1-2years watching the innovative documentary film “The Nightingale Sings…”, which explores the issue of preserving the Ukrainian language in comparison with other languages ​​of the world.

On October 25, all the teachers of the department, headed by the head Olha Sikorska, and the first-year students of groups 5-6 took part in writing the Radiodictation of National Unity 2024, the author of which is the Ukrainian writer Oksana Zabuzhko. Poet, musician and military man Pavlo Vyshebaba read the text of the radio dictation.

The final stage of the Week of the Ukrainian Writing and Language was traditionally held with first-year winners of all majors, the 1st stage of the XXV International Ukrainian Language Competition named after Petro Yatsyk.

During the whole week, the Department of Social Sciences, together with the library of ONMedU, held a book exhibition for applicants of all faculties, at which the works of famous Ukrainian figures – the founder of the modern Ukrainian literary language I.P. Kotlyarevsky and the founder of the modern Ukrainian language T. G. Shevchenko.
